Sound Baths
What is a Sound Bath?
Sound baths are a gentle, holistic practice that nurture your emotional, mental and physical health, making them beneficial for your overall wellbeing.
The soothing sounds and vibrations of the instruments gently flow around you, encouraging your mind to slow down, your body to relax, and your breathe to deepen, this brings you calm, emotional balance and peace, and allows any stress and tension to be released, which allows you to reconnect with yourself in a beautifully restorative way.
What are the benefits of a sound bath
Stress relieving - the gentle, calming tones and vibrations of the instruments work like a reset button for your nervous system, helping your breathing to slow down, and lowering your heart rate and cortisol (the stress hormone) levels, this encourages your stress to naturally melt away, easing tension and promoting relaxation.
Quieting the mind - the layered sounds of the instruments allow your thoughts to quieten, making it easier to let go of racing thoughts and worries. which allows you to feel more focused and grounded .
Better sleep - the soothing tones will settle your nervous system, allowing you to let go of any stress, which will help you sleep more deeply and restfully.
Physical ease - the gentle sound waves reduce feelings of tightness and/or discomfort in your body, and ease muscle tension.
Time for yourself - a sound bath offers you time for a quiet pause from your daily demands, allowing you to reconnect with stillness and presence.
Accessible meditation - you do not need to '“do” anything - just listening to the sounds will carry you into a meditative state with ease.
Nervous system support – a sound bath will help to shift you from a “fight or flight” response into a “rest and repair” mode, which will help your body recover naturally.
What to expect
Once you have booked your space, you simply just need to arrive, choose your space, get comfortable, and enjoy the sounds and vibrations of the sound bath.
The session starts when everyone has arrived and has settled, I encourage everyone to take a few deep breaths as the session starts as this helps your body to relax.
Most people will deeply relax, daydream, or even fall asleep - all experiences are welcome.
The session itself lasts for 45 minutes, and there is some relaxation time afterwards, which will help you return from your deep relaxation.
What do I need to bring
I provide you with a mat, blanket and a cushion, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
A warm pair of socks, and a jumper or cardigan is advisable - as your body temperature can reduce during the session.
I also advise you to bring a bottle of water with you - as a sound bath can make you dehydrated.
Who can experience a sound bath
Sound baths are suitable for everyone, including children, as long as you are happy and able to lie down/sit comfortably for the duration of the session.
No previous experience is needed.
Who are they not suitable for
Sound baths are generally suitable for everyone, there a few reasons it is advisable to seek medical approval before booking a session:
Anyone with a history of Epilepsy, or a history of seizures - especially if sound or sensory environments are a trigger.
If you suffer with severe, undiagnosed mental health conditions - where deep relaxation or altered sensory states may feel unsettling.
During pregnancy - particularly during the first trimester, or if you have a history of problem pregnancies.
If you wear a pacemaker, implantable defibrillator, or any other electronic/metal implant or device - if you use a hearing aid or cochlear implant - it is advisable that you remove them before the sessions starts - as the vibrations may feel too intense.
If you suffer with severe cardiovascular issues, stents, or have had recent heart surgery.
After recent surgery, injuries, or chronic pain - if lying down for a period of time may be uncomfortable for you.
Where are they held
I hold sessions across Hampshire and Wiltshire, please look at the Events/Bookings page for a sound bath near you, or to book into a session.
Other advice
It is advisable to drink plenty of water leading up to your sound bath and thereafter, as they can make you dehydrated.
Avoid eating a heavy meal a few hours before your session, as this can prevent your body from fully relaxing during the session.
Avoid alcohol before your session - you will not be able to join a session if you have consumed alcohol.
It is advisable to avoid drinking alcohol after your session, as it can have a stronger effect than normal.
Avoid overstimulating environments - loud noises, bright lights, or busy spaces after the session, as these can feel too intense, it is beneficial to have some quiet time to yourself afterwards.
Try to avoid jumping straight back onto your phone straight after your session - as scrolling can pull you out of the peaceful state too quickly.
